What I love about this photo is the reciprocal relationship it shows about our place in the world and our relationship to God in it. Open hands can be a sign of giving — as in, for example, charity towards our neighbors, love towards all, as well as the giving of our faith and gratitude for our lives towards God. Alternatively, they can represent receiving — as in the gifts of our lives or the love of friends. Each one reminds us of the vastness of both the responsibility and the equal power to give to our world and to receive God’s grace, which are granted to us by the Holy Spirit.
