In the Old-English archery language, missing the center of the target was called โ€œsinโ€. The Greek New Testament word for sin, ๐œถ๐๐œถ๐†๐‰๐œพ๐œถ [hamartรญa], conveys the same meaning โ€“ to miss the target. For Christians, the center of the target is Christ. Not to be like Christ means therefore to sin.
